Session Summary

This webinar explored global approaches to biomarker testing in immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular testing, featuring an international panel discussing how predictive cancer biomarker testing is conducted across different countries.

Panelists from Spain, India, Rwanda, and Armenia, joined by a moderator from Canada, shared insights into who initiates biomarker testing, where testing is performed, and the challenges faced in their respective regions.

The discussion covered the role of pathologists in selecting testing strategies, guidelines for IHC implementation, pre-analytical challenges related to specimen adequacy, and the incorporation of next-generation sequencing as an alternative to traditional IHC and FISH testing.

Panelists also addressed payment and reimbursement challenges, including situations requiring clinician approval before additional testing can be performed, and discussed the currently limited use of artificial intelligence algorithms in their practices.

The webinar concluded with panelists sharing their goals for improving biomarker testing access and quality, including establishing molecular tumor boards and developing national referral laboratories with expanded IHC and molecular testing capabilities.

Topics Covered

Global Biomarker Testing Practices
IHC and Molecular Testing Guidelines
Specimen Adequacy and Pre-Analytical Challenges
Next-Generation Sequencing and FISH
Reimbursement and Testing Access
Future Directions in Biomarker Testing
